The Joys of Becoming a Mystery Author in Mid-Life or Mid-Career

The author of the award-nominated Jane Prescott series, Mariah Fredericks, Vassar ’88, will talk about how she embarked on a second career as a mystery author, the joys and challenges of the genre, and how to commit to creativity in distracting times.
She will also talk about how she switched from one genre to another, what the mystery market looks like now, and overcoming that first obstacle faced by everyone with a story to tell: how to get your fingers on the keyboard and maintain the necessary optimism to see the book through to the end.
About Mariah
As the author of thirteen published books, Mariah has been writing, finishing, and selling books for most of her adult life. Mariah was the head copywriter for Book-of-the-Month Club for many years and is now the author of eight books for young adults and five books for adults. Mariah's novels are historical, set in 1910s New York, a time that has a lot in common with our era. Writing mysteries is without doubt the most fun she has ever had.
Mariah has spoken at schools, libraries, and conferences including YALSA, Malice Domestic, and Bouchercon. Her books have been well reviewed by the New York Times and
the Wall Street Journal. Her novel, "Crunch Time", was nominated for the 2007 Edgar for Best Young Adult and "A Death of No Importance" was nominated for the 2019 Mary Higgins Clark Award.
