Women of Color on the Rise in Nonprofit and Social Enterprise

Sunday, August 9th, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Imani Missouri '08 is the creator, host, and producer of Forward 40(4tea), the first and only podcast highlighting the experiences of women of color in the nonprofit and social enterprise sectors. Come join us for a 90-minute 2-part presentation that explores her motivations and highlights her achievements, including a real-time panel interview with several of her previous guests, who are boldly affirming their identities in the world of mission-based work. Imani expresses her desire for this program to create “an affirming space for women of color to see themselves in the guests and also provide non-BIPOC* guests an opportunity to learn, connect, and engage."

* Black and Indigenous People of Color

This 2-part presentation will explore the genesis of Forward 40(4tea) and the influences that shaped Imani from her South Bronx upbringing, student years at Smith College and the New School’s Milano School of Policy, Management and Environment through Community Organizing to her current status as Founder and Principal Owner of Faith Forward LLC.

Following this thoughtful interview, moderated by Jacqueline Anderson, ’80, Imani will interview a panel of four of the many compelling guests she previously has featured on her podcast series, dedicated to showcasing the outstanding projects these women have embraced, as they boldly affirm their identities in the world of mission-based work. Imani’s guests will be:

  • Amber Gonzales-Vargas ~ Senior Program Manager at the Latino Community Foundation
  • Esi Agyeman Gillo ‘10 ~ Co-Founder of DIFFvelopment
  • Isabel Coronado ~ Next100 Fellow
  • Starla D. Hart, MPA ~ Director of Community Initiatives at 16 Tech Community Corporation
