Featuring Smith Alumna Gillian Sorensen '63

Described by The New York Times as "the Diplomat's Diplomat," Gillian Sorensen has had a distinguished career with the United Nations where she served as Special Adviser for Public Policy, Assistant Secretary-General for External Relations, and National Advocate for the United Nations Foundation.

She worked closely with three Secretaries-General and diplomats from 193 nations. Her career began as NYC Commissioner for the United Nations and Consular Corps.

Gillian has twice been a Fellow at Harvard. She is a member of the Board of the International Rescue Committee and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and International Women's Forum. She continues to inspire support on matters of peace, human rights, and refugee relief.
