An Informative SCCNYC Zoom Group Discussion

Saturday, May 9, 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM

You must be registered before 2:30 PM on Saturday to join the event.

Limit: 100 participants

Instead of eating to satisfy hunger, individuals are turning to food as a source of comfort, as a way to avoid painful

and uncomfortable emotions of loneliness, boredom, anxiety, and depression. In essence, they are feeding their emotions. Lauren Grunebaum, LCSW (Smith College ‘1983, Columbia University ‘1986) will lead a Zoom group discussion about the increase in eating difficulties and the loneliness and shame often associated with overeating at this unprecedented time. Other related topics, such as food acquisition, meal planning, and preparation in isolation, and nutrition also will be discussed.

A New York City psychotherapist, Lauren specializes in treating eating disorders and associated anxiety

and depression. Her practice includes individuals, couples, and families dealing with depression and anxiety, both of which are often components

of anorexia nervosa, bulimia, and binge eating disorder.

Creator of an interactive workshop called “Starving at the Banquet”, she led this workshop at middle and high schools in the metropolitan area,

medical schools, parents’ groups, and University counseling centers. More information about Lauren is available here.

Please join Lauren Grunebaum, LCSW, SCCNYC, and the community to discuss vital issues related to food in the time of COVID-19.
