Creating a Meaningful and Memorable Summer 2020 for Kids and Families

Although summer plans have changed for many families, there are ways to make it memorable. This presentation will answer various questions parents have about how to help children and teens use the time, what are appropriate expectations, how can family members work together to craft a meaningful summer, and what are some creative ways to approach upcoming challenges.

Dr. Robin Goodman is Associate Director of Public Education and Bereavement for Child HELP Partnership at St. John’s University and consults to Allegheny General Hospital Center for Traumatic Stress in Children and Adolescents. Her primary interest and background is working with children, families and adults especially those impacted by trauma, illness, and death. Previous leadership positions include: Director of Family Programs at Voices of September 11th and Co-Director of the 9/11 Child and Family Recovery Program at the NYU Child Study Center. She has consulted on trauma and grief related issues to the Department of Defense Educational Directorate and the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors. She also served as the Chair of the NY State Psychological Association Disaster Response Network. She established child life and behavioral health programs at pediatric cancer services at major New York City hospitals and the bereavement program at A Caring Hand. Dr. Goodman is the developer of Making Connections, a grief group curriculum for children and families being implemented in New York City and nationally in psychology training programs. She has wide ranging experience in teaching, public education and appearances on local and national television on mental health and parenting. Dr. Goodman developed Caring for Kids After Trauma and Death: A Guide for Parents and Professionals, used throughout the country following 9/11 and the children’s books Ready to Remember: Jeremy’s Journey of Hope and Healing, and Rosie Remembers: Forever in Her Heart. She also maintains a private practice in New York City for children and adults.
