Rethinking trauma and rediscovering an American Impressionist - plus our Holiday Party!

At our December 3 salon, we look at how experiencing emotional trauma can often lead to unexpected growth and development. Moderated by psychotherapist Patricia Tidwell, '73, PhD, LCSW, this evening explores the transformational potential of trauma, using ideas from The Trauma of Everyday Life by psychiatrist and author Mark Epstein (no need to have read the book to participate). On Monday, December 8, we focus on American Tonalism through the life and work of Impressionist Mary Rogers Williams, who taught art at Smith, in an event hosted by Amy Kurtz Lansing, '96, curator of the Florence Griswold Museum (Old Lyme, CT), home of the first Williams retrospective, and New York Times Antiques Columnist Eve Kahn.
And yes, it's time to mark your calendars for our Annual Holiday Party on Tuesday, December 16! Come celebrate and enjoy delicious food, sparkling refreshments and great conversation with your fellow Smithies. The party is free for members ($30 for non-members) -- yet another reason to join the SCCNYC before 2014 closes out!
