New Year Kick-Off with Mah Jongg, A Night of Dance and Volunteering Opportunities with the SCCNYC

Dear Reader,

Happy 2015!

We kick off a stellar year of events, starting this Friday, January 9, at 5:30 pm with the Booking Dance Festival NYC at Jazz at Lincoln Center, a six-hour dance extravaganza featuring 27 different dance companies. Watch performances in ballet, modern, flamenco, hip hop, jazz and more from The Appel Room overlooking Central Park and enjoy discounted premium seating and VIP After Party tickets, courtesy of producer Jodi Kaplan '89.

Next, we turn to an evening exploring art history - and Mah Jongg. While many players are lured by the game itself, Gregg Deane Swain '75, who studied art at Smith, became intrigued by the mysterious, often cryptic, beautiful images on the tiles and boxes. Join us on Monday, January 12, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm for a discussion of Mah Jongg: The Art of the Game, the first book to showcase the exquisite art created by craftsmen over the last hundred years. Ann Israel, co-author of the book, will also be present. Please RSVP for the address of the home where the talk will take place.

And if you've resolved to do something new this year, why not consider getting involved in your local Smith Club? As the oldest and largest of the Smith College Alumnae Clubs, the Smith College Club of New York City is looking for enthusiastic women to help with interviewing potential new students, planning events, raising money for scholarships, growing our membership, and more. If you're curious about what we do or interested in joining a committee or our Board of Directors, please email President@smithclubnyc.org.

We hope to see you at a future event!
