February Events: Book, Movie and Theater Nights, Karaoke & Multi-City Philanthropy Challenge

Dear Reader,

What better way to beat the cold than by teaming up with Smithies in other cities who want to make a difference for women's education?

The Smith Fund Multi-City Philanthropy Challenge starts TODAY - a great way to join with friends and former classmates in Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles and right here in New York. Our mission? Increase donors to The Smith Fund, which supports scholarships, internships and study-away opportunities, innovative academic programs, campus facilities and other important endeavors.

As we turn the corner into February, here's a reminder of what the Smith College Club has planned in New York City over the next few weeks:

  • On Wednesday, February 4, at 6:00 pm, we host a talk about an epic war - and love - set in Ethiopia in 1935 with Frances Vieta Smith '64, author of Love in the Land of Barefoot Soldiers

  • On Tuesday, February 17, join us for a night at the movies, watching either Still Alice (with Julianne Moore and Alec Baldwin) or Cake (with Jennifer Aniston and Sam Worthington) at a time after 5:30 pm; tickets available at a discount but space is limited

  • On Monday, February 23, at 6:30 pm, our Book Group explores Edith Wharton's classic The Age of Innocence (contact Bookgroup@smithclubnyc.org for more details)
  • From Wednesday, February 25, through Monday, April 20, discounted tickets are available to see Elisabeth Moss and Jason Biggs in the first Broadway revival of The Heidi Chronicles, the Tony award and Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Wendy Wasserstein, produced by Gabbe London Palitz '80
  • We close out the month on Wednesday, February 25, with a Young Alumnae/ Young-at-Heart Karaoke night in Kips Bay, where you can sing your heart out or just come enjoy your favorite tunes from *NSYNC, Destiny's Child, TLC and more - performed with a little Smithie flair
