Salon on Hillary Rodham Clinton and Women in Political Leadership, Annual Faculty Lecture

Dear Reader,

We are looking forward to seeing many of you tonight at our Annual Scholarship Benefit with President Emerita Jill Ker Conway. It will be a wonderful evening!

On Wednesday, May 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, we discuss women and leadership at our Salon, moderated by Dr. Patricia Tidwell, '73. This event focuses on political leadership, using Hillary Rodham Clinton's book, Hard Choices, as a starting point. At present, 25 countries have elected female heads of state, but the U.S. is not one of them. Clinton is hoping to change this in the next election. During this evening, we will look at questions such as how women like Clinton decide to run, and what motivates them.

Then on Monday, June 8, at 7:00 pm we host our free Annual Faculty Lecture. Our speaker this year is Sam Intrator, Professor and Chair of the Child Study Program at Smith and Founding Director of the Smith College Urban Education Initiative. Intrator also serves as co-founder of Project Coach, a Smith-staffed program serving children and teenagers in Springfield, Mass. In addition to teaching courses in urban educational policy and youth development, Intrator works with graduate and undergraduate students preparing to teach adolescents in both school and out-of-school placements.

We hope you will attend the Smith in New York Networking Breakfast on Friday, June 12, from 8:00 to 10:00 am. Our special guest will be President Kathleen McCartney, who tell us what's happening on campus and her plans for the next academic year. Be sure to register here by Tuesday, May 12. Exact location (near Grand Central Station) will be provided to those who sign up.
