Cool August Happenings: Book Group, Craft Meet-Up and a Book Launch Party

Dear Reader,

As we head into August, you may be looking for ways to beat the heat with some fun indoor activities. The Smith College Club of New York has you covered.

On Monday, August 3, at 6:30 pm join our book group, where we will discuss "Ella Minnow Pea: A Novel in Letters" by Mark Dunn. This is the story of a girl living on a fictional island of Nollop, who unexpectedly finds herself trying to save her friends, family and fellow citizens from the encroaching totalitarianism of the island's Council, which has banned the use of certain letters of the alphabet. The event will be held at the home of an alumna. Please contact bookgroup@smithclubnyc.com for details.

Wednesday, August 5, brings our next Craft Meet-Up. Come with your latest knitting, crocheting or quilting project and enjoy conversation as you work. The event starts at 6:30 pm at the home of an alumna. Click here to RSVP

We round out the week with a Connect Event on Saturday, August 8, at 6:00 pm. Young Adult Author Betsy Cornwall '10 reads from her new book, "Mechanica," a wonderful feminist retelling of the Cinderella story about an indomitable inventor-mechanic who finds her prince...and then reconsiders. The reading will be held at The Way Station, 683 Washington Avenue, in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. Betsy will stay after to speak with Smithies.
