2015-2016 Kick-Off: Annual Membership Party, Upcoming Events

Dear Reader,

We have a fantastic year ahead, starting with our official kick-off celebration on Tuesday, September 29, at our Annual Membership Party. Come meet and mingle with Smithies at the Bridget Moore ('79) Gallery and hear about everything we have planned for the months ahead. Remember: Admission is free for members, so join now or renew your membership today.

Membership in the Club gives you access to a full year of events, including these this fall:

  • Our first Salon of the season, featuring a lively discussion about women's education, female role models and the Smith experience. Held on Wednesday, September 16, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and hosted by Dr. Patricia Tidwell, this event focuses on A Women's Education by President Emerita Jill Ker Conway, our 2015 Annual Scholarship Benefit Speaker and the College's first female president. This event is held on the Upper West Side at the home of an alumna; click here for more information.
  • An evening with Dr. Anne Moore '65, Medical Director of the Weill Cornell Breast Center and one of New York Magazine's Best Doctors, who speaks about her work and research with breast cancer on Wednesday, October 7, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
  • The world premiere performance of "The Inn at Lake Devine," a new play based on the book by novelist and former Smith professor Elinor Lipman, adapted by and starring Jake Lipman '00, to be held on Wednesday, October 14.
  • An afternoon of dialogue and reflections in honor of Otelia Cromwell, the first African-American graduate of Smith in 1900. Taking place on Sunday, October 18, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, the discussion will be led by Professor Paula Giddings, Africana Studies E.A. Woodson 1922 Professor, and Professor Riché Barnes, Assistant Professor of Africana Studies.
The Smith College Club of New York City mourns the untimely and tragic death this summer of Arlene Allison Ellis '06, a talented artist who designed the commemorative gift cards for the June 12, 2015 Smith in New York Networking Breakfast and shared great insights at our 2015 Annual Meeting. Our thoughts and prayers are with her mother, family and friends. She will live on in our memories and in her art: http://www.arleneellis.com.

We look forward to seeing you this fall.
