Kicking off 2016 with a Craft Meet Up, Dance Festival and Exploration of Mental Health & Race

Dear Reader,

Happy New Year! We hope one of your resolutions is to explore everything the Smith College Club of NYC has to offer. Here is a sneak peak at some of the many wonderful events we have planned for the next few weeks:

  • First Craft Meet-Up of 2016 on Wednesday, Jan. 13 (6:30 to 8:30 pm): a chance to catch up on your knitting, crocheting, quilting or other project over good conversation with new and old friends.

  • Award-winning Latina Feminist Dior Vargas '09 on the Intersection of Race and Mental Illness on Tuesday, Jan. 26 (6:30 to 8:30 pm): a thoughtful, compelling talk by a mental health activist, White House Champion of Change for Disability Advocacy recipient, and founder of the People of Color and Mental Illness Photo Project, an initiative focused on the invisibility of people of color in the media representation of mental illness.

And Save the Date for two of our biggest events of the year, our Annual Scholarship Benefit with President Emerita Ruth J. Simmons on Monday, April 4, and our (free to members) Annual Faculty Lecture on Wednesday, May 11, with Associate Professor Sara B. Pruss, Department of Geosciences. Stay tuned for more details.
