January Club-Sponsored, Connect and College Events

Dear Reader,

As the temperature drops, many of us are looking for fun indoor activities. The Smith College Club of New York City has you covered.

First, join us on Wednesday, January 13, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at our Craft Meet-Up and finish that scarf, quilt or other project you have been working on.

On Sunday, January 17, it's time for our first Connect Event of the year, with
Jodi Kaplan '89 and the 4th Annual Booking Dance Festival NYCThis five-hour dance extravaganza starts at 4:30 pm at Lincoln Center and includes works from 20 dance companies, including ballet, modern, hip hop, contemporary and much more.

Join us on Tuesday, January 26 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm for an evening with a
ward-winning Latina Feminist Dior Vargas '09 on the Intersection of Race and Mental Illness. Vargas, a mental health activist, will talk about her work leading the People of Color and Mental Illness Photo Project, where she explores how people of color with mental illness are portrayed - or not portrayed - in today's media.

We also invite you to check out two upcoming events sponsored by the College through The Smith College Business Network:

  • On Wednesday, January 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, the Office of Alumnae Relations at Smith hosts a Young Alumnae and Student Networking Night. This free event invites young alumnae to connect with current students to share tips on working and living in New York City. The focus for this event is on consumer goods, women's reproductive rights / justice, NGOs and start-ups / entrepreneurism. The event is at the United Jewish Federation Building at 130 East 59th Street; you must register by January 18 to attend.
  • On Friday, January 22, from 8:00 to 10:00 am, it's a morning of Real Stories of Entrepreneurs, where alumnae discuss their experiences starting, growing and succeeding in their own businesses.
