Celebrating Neilson Library with Pres. McCarthy and Maya Lin & the Atlantic City Music of Yesterday

Dear Reader,

From the Mortimer Rare Book Room, to the Sophia Smith Collection, to the College Archives, Neilson Library houses it all. On Thursday, February 11, at 6:00 pm, Smith President Kathleen McCartney and Provost and Dean of the Faculty Katherine Rowe will join architectural designer Maya Lin for a talk on Reimagining Neilson: A Library for the 21st Century. They will discuss exciting plans for the library and what it will look like for future students and scholars.

Then from February 19 to 21, it's time to go back to the Atlantic City of yesterday and visit the famed Club Harlem. The new musical, On Kentucky Avenue, co-produced by Sylvia "Cookie" Smith Lewis '74, transports audiences back to a time before the casinos, when Kentucy Avenue's Club Harlem - known as "the Black Copacabana" - featured not only major talent of the era but also flair, fashion and fantastic stage shows. The musical, which runs at Aaron Davis Hall on the campus of The City College of New York, has an original score true to the era interspersed with classic songs from the 1960's. Tickets are $25 (Smith $5 off with code "Sylvia") and proceeds benefit Harlem community theater programs.
