Exploring Culture, Gender, Food & Power; March Open Board Meeting; Celebrating Paris JYA

Dear Reader,

A two-time Fullbright scholar, Dr. Sarah K. Khan '87, studies the intersection of food, culture, climate and sustainability, grounding her work in both clinical and botanical research. As a writer and consultant, she applies this knowledge to projects with a wide range of media outlets, chefs, NGOs, museums, corporations and governmental entities. On Thursday, February 25, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, she will share her findings with our Club. Join us for a screening and discussion on Dr. Khan's new documentary, Bowing to No Onewhich follows Satyavati, an indigenous female farmer from Central India. The discussion will be moderated by Sylvia Lewis '74, CEO and Founder of the Narrative Network, at a location on the Upper West Side (address provided to those who register). Refreshments will be served. The cost is $20 for Members and $30 for Non-Members.

Looking for a good book - and a compelling book group? Look no further. Join us on Monday, February 29, at 6:30 pm, at the Smith Club
Book Group to explore Being Mortal by Atul Gawande and Do No Harm by Henry Marsh. The event will be held on the Upper East Side. For more details, email Bookclub@smithclubnyc.org.

I
f you've been wondering how to get involved in the NYC Smith College Club, we hope you will stop by our Open Board Meeting on Tuesday, March 8, from 7:30 to 8:30 pm. If you have an idea for an event, would like to help recruit new students, or want to lend a hand in Membership or Communications efforts, this is a no-pressure opportunity to hear more and see if what we do fits your interests.

On Wednesday, March 9, we are holding our next Salon, hosted by Dr. Patricia Tidwell '73. We will discuss women's transformative economic influence, based on the book, Fast Forward: How Women Can Achieve Power and Purpose, by Ambassador Melanie Verveer and Kim Azzarelli. We will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the home of an alumna near Union Square.

Saturday, March 19, offers a chance to get away to France - at least for a few hours. Come to a special
Brunch commemorating the 90th Anniversary of Smith's Junior Year Abroad Program in Paris. Join us to connect and celebrate this wonderful anniversary at a fun Midtown East French bistro - where speaking French is encouraged (but not required). Space is limited and the event starts at 1:00 pm; register now to hold a spot.
