Destigmatizing PTSD, Annual Faculty Lecture (Free for Members), Brooklyn Meet-Up

Dear Reader,

Join us tonight (Monday, May 2, at 6:30 pm) to hear from Wendy Bassett (LCSW, AC ’98, MSW ’03), who served as a front-line clinician, helping Iraq & Afghanistan vets cope with mental health issues and PTSD. She will talk about her 10+ years providing outpatient therapy and the need to destigmatize these conditions.

Next week on Wednesday, May 11, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, our Annual Faculty Lecture welcomes Sara Pruss, Associate Professor of Geosciences and Recipient of the 2015 Kathleen Compton Sherrerd '54 and John J. F. Sherrerd Prize for Distinguished Teaching. Pruss, who has been a member of the Smith faculty since 2007, specializes in invertebrate paleontology, marine science and the history of life on earth. She has been featured in two National Geographic TV programs and has been involved in field research projects in northern Namibia, Death Valley and Newfoundland. Colleagues praise Pruss for encouraging students in the classroom to think like scientists. This event is free for members ($30 for non-members).

Mark your calendars now for our own Ivy Day festivities in Brooklyn on Saturday, May 14, when we host the next Neighborhood Meet-Up. This time, we meet in Williamsburg at one of the borough's hot spots - Smorgasburg (East River State Park at North 7th Street). Stop by starting at 1:30pm, and look for our balloons and sign. This is a casual gathering for members and those who are interested in hearing about the Smith Club in a relaxed, social setting.
