Roosevelt Island & Princeton Club Tours, Author Dinitia Smith, LBGTQ Picnic in the Park

Dear Reader,

Join us on Saturday, June 4, to explore a lesser-known part of the city - Roosevelt Island. Sally Minard '64, President and CEO of the Four Freedoms Park Conservancy, will host Club members for a tour of Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park, the last work of the late Louis I. Kahn, an iconic architect of the 20th century. The tour, which runs from 11:00 am to noon, will include discussions of the Roosevelt era and the Four Freedoms Park, the architect's design principes and philosophy, the story behind the building of the memorial and the history of Roosevelt Island.

On Monday, June 6, we meet with author Dinitia Smith '67 who will speak about her new book, The Honeymoon, a biographical novel about George Eliot, author of Middlemarch. An award-winning author of four novels (including The Illusionist, a New York Times Notable Book of the Year), Smith has worked as a cultural correspondent for The Times, specializing in literature and the arts. She is also an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and has taught literature at Columbia, NYU and the Bread Loaf Writers Conference.

On Wednesday, June 8, it's time for another tour - this time in Midtown. Enjoy a members-only tour of The Princeton Club of New York City from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Smith Club members have the opportunity to become members of The Princeton Club, which offers overnight accommodations and dining and athletic facilities. This tour introduces members to the Princeton Club's facilities. RSVP now, as space is limited.

Celebrate Pride Month with the Smith Club on Saturday, June 11, from 1:30 to 4:30 pm, as we gather for a Connect Event: LBGTQ & Alum Potluck Picnic in Central Park. We'll meet in the Sheeps Meadow (look for the rainbow balloons) for games, networking and food (bring a dish to share). For questions or more information or to RSVP, contact Jasminachuck@gmail.com.
