Tomorrow's Breakfast, Next Week's Membership Party and More
Dear Reader,
We hope to see new faces and old friends on Monday, September 19, a week from today, at our Annual Membership Party, held at Chelsea's beautiful DC Moore Gallery (headed by Bridget Moore '79). This is the perfect opportunity to hear about the Club's plans for the coming year and how you can get involved - with recruiting prospective Smithies, creating Club events, and assisting with the Club's outreach to the Smith community. All are invited, but since admission is free for members, it's a good time to join now or renew your membership.
Here are a few of out exciting events in the coming weeks (and remember that a benefit of membership is discounted admission fees):
- Our first Salon of the season on September 28 will feature a lively discussion of The New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Traister’s new book, "All The Single Ladies: Unmarried Women and the Rise of an Independent Nation." This nuanced investigation into the sexual, economic, and emotional lives of women in America, led by Patricia Tidwell '73 PhD, LCSW, will be held at the Union Square area home of an alumna. - Part 1 of a five-part series: Smith Women Connect - Managing Your Career, co-sponsored by the Office of Alumnae Relations and The Smith Fund on September 25. Part 1, titled Your Present, will give you the opportunity to assess the current state of your career, identify how well you fit in your current position, and complete a self-assessment of values, accomplishments, strengths, skills and personality factors. Our new year of activities may just be starting, but one program is a longstanding fundraising tradition: selling Pecans. Dorothy Guth '50 initiated pecan sales more than 25 years ago, noting their popularity at Smith Clubs around the country. And she got the attention of an important voice - Craig Claibourne, who was then food editor at The New York Times. He wrote an article about the efforts called "9 Tons of Pecans for a Cause."
