Happy New Year from the NYC Smith Club

January 3, 2019

Happy New Year from the Smith College Club of New York City! Thanks to everyone who attended last month's Holiday Party. We had a wonderful time celebrating with you and we're excited for another great year of networking, learning, reminiscing, and connecting with this incredible community. Here are some ways to kick off the new year. We look forward to seeing you soon.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Club would like to share the recent passing of alumnae Ruth Turner '46. Ruth was a devout Club member, serving two terms on the board of directors and later as a special advisor. She edited Club communications, hosted admissions events, and as honorary chair of the Annual Scholarship Benefit, was instrumental in raising funds for the continued scholarship of Smith students.

You can learn more about Ruth in her obituary or in this NY Times feature from July 2018. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 pm on Sunday, January 27 at the Cos Club. Smithies who would like to attend should contact Vanessa Gates-Elston at vgateselston@gmail.com no later than Saturday, January 12. Donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to the Ada Comstock program, Smith College, at www.smith.edu/giving.

Seeking Admissions Volunteers
The Club's Admissions Committee is looking for additional volunteers to conduct off-campus interviews for local applicants. This is a great way to get involved, stay up to date with activities on campus, and engage with potential Smithies. Training and materials will be provided. If interested, please email Evangelia Antonakos at admissionscommittee@smithclubnyc.orgThanks to those who have already volunteered.
There's still time to purchase Smith Pecans, a wonderful treat any time of year. Remember: each bag sold contributes $2 to the Smith College Scholarship Fund. To make a final purchase, please contact Ann Hilliard (ahilliard@nyc.rr.com) by Saturday, January 12.
