Greetings Smithies! The Club thanks all those who served as mentors through the Smith Partner Summer Program. This year, we were able to support nearly 30 current students as they spent their summers working, learning, and growing in the city.
 
The 2019-20 Directors are very excited to kick this programming year off. There are already many events and activities to look forward to, so mark your calendars and stay tuned for more information.

Join the Smith College Club of New York City for drinks and connect with your fellow Smithies. Plus, get tips on navigating life in the Big Apple from alums who have been living here for years. The meet-up is free, but RSVP is strongly encouraged.

If you've ever seen caterers pass flawless hors d'oeuvres and marveled at how they did it or wondered whether you could throw the perfect party—professionally or in your own home—come discover the inner workings of a professional kitchen. Diane Gordon '82, owner of Diane Gordon Catering, will walk participants through the preparation of a simple yet impressive meal using tools everyone has at home. She will also share her journey from the practice of law to successful entrepreneurship. Attendees may enjoy the meal with a glass of wine, and everyone will receive a folder of the recipes to keep.
 
The 2-hour class and tasting will take place in an industrial kitchen in East Harlem. Participants will need to stand around a prep table for the duration. Please email events@smithclubnyc.org if you require seating. Space is limited.

The Jewish Museum will present the first-ever exhibition exploring the remarkable career of the influential American art dealer, Edith Halpert (1900-1970). Halpert was a pioneer in the field and the first significant female gallerist in the US, presenting work by women, immigrants, and Jewish artists. She founded the Downtown Gallery, which was the first major mainstream art space in New York City to promote the work of African-American artists. Learn More.
 
Join the Club for a docent-led tour of this exhibit featuring works by some of the artists Halpert championed. Payment includes general admission to the museum, the docent-led tour, and a 10% discount at the museum shop. Tickets are non-refundable.

Location: The Jewish Museum (1109 5th Ave at 92nd St)
The matinee performance of this holiday classic will be preceded by "Meet the Dancer," a special 45-minute discussion and backstage tour hosted by an NYCB corps member. Highlights include insights into the life of a dancer, background on the performance, and the opportunity to experience the breathtaking view of the auditorium from onstage. 
 
The $130 ticket price includes seating in a side section (Area B) of the theater's Second Ring; "Meet the Dancer;" and all fees. Space is extremely limited. Smith Club members and non-members may bring family or friends as guests. Please note that participants must be at least 10 years old to attend the backstage tour.
