Fall is in full swing and the Club has a number of great activities coming up. Thanks to everyone who made it to Bryant Park for our annual Mountain Day celebration. If you missed it, no worries. There are plenty of opportunities on the horizon to connect with fellow Smithies. Make sure to mark your calendars and sign up in advance for these exciting events.  

FEATURED EVENT
Come enjoy a beautiful autumn day at the Storm King Art Center, the 500-acre outdoor sculpture museum located 90 minutes north of NYC. Take a bus from Port Authority with the group or travel on your own and meet the group on the grounds. Enjoy a docent-led tour featuring the history and highlights of the Center. Family and friends are welcome to join.

Admission Volunteers
The Club's Admission Committee welcomes volunteers interested in conducting alumnae interviews with current Smith applicants. This is a great way to get involved and meet potential future Smithies. Training and materials will be provided. Contact admission@SmithClubNYC.org to volunteer or for more information. 
 
Parent & Children Event Survey
The Club’s Events Committee is brainstorming the best way to host an event for Smithie parents and their children. The idea is to plan a Saturday morning activity that’s fun and educational for the children and allows the parents to socialize with each other. The committee is currently reaching out to different venues—including the Children's Museum of Arts, Lincoln Center, and the New Victory Theaterto see what options are available. Please complete this brief survey to help us understand your interests and to generate more ideas.
 
Holiday Pecans On Sale Now
Once again, the Club is selling Smith College pecans before the holiday season. Prices remain the same as last year. Thanks for supporting this fundraising effort, which benefits the Smith College Scholarship Fund. Learn more about this tradition.

UPCOMING SMITH CLUB EVENTS

Edith Halpert and the Rise of American Art
The Jewish Museum will present the first-ever exhibition exploring the remarkable career of the influential and highly contemporary American art dealer, Edith Halpert (1900-1970). Halpert was a pioneer in the field and the first significant female gallerist in the US, presenting work by women, immigrants, and Jewish artists. She founded the Downtown Gallery, which was the first major mainstream art space in New York City to promote the work of African-American artists. Learn More.
 
Join the Club for a docent-led tour of this exhibit featuring works by some of the artists Halpert championed. Payment includes general admission to the museum, the docent-led tour, and a 10% discount at the museum shop. Tickets are non-refundable.

2019 Otelia Cromwell Day Celebration

Keynote Speaker: Ginetta Candelario '90 
Professor of Sociology and Latin American & Latino/a Studies, Smith College | Editor, Meridians: feminism, race, and transnationalism Magazine | Author, "Black Behind the Ears"
 
Featured Speakers: Denise Wingate Materre '74, Smith's new Vice President for Alumnae Relations. Special Smith community guests TBA.
Book Signing: Professor Candelario's book, "Black behind the Ears" will be available for purchase. The cost is approximately $20. Copies of Meridians Magazine will also be available. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served.
 
Event is co-sponsored by the New York area Black Alumnae of Smith College (BASC) and the Smith College Club of New York City.

Join the Club at New York City’s only free admission ice skating rink for a festive way to welcome the season and get into the holiday spirit. Additional Tickets to the New York City Ballet's "The Nutcracker" Available Now
Due to popular demand, the Club has made additional tickets to this event available. The matinee performance of the holiday classic will be preceded by "Meet the Dancer," a special 45-minute discussion and backstage tour hosted by an NYCB corps member. Highlights include insights into the life of a dancer, background on the performance, and the opportunity to experience the breathtaking view of the auditorium from onstage.

SEVEN SISTERS ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION
The Seven Sisters Alumnae Association, founded by Smithie Jen Pollock McNally '94, is the first and only place for Seven Sisters Alumnae and current students to network and connect. Smith, Wellesley, Bryn Mawr, Vassar, Mount Holyoke, Barnard and Radcliffe alumnae, and current students can join the website and have full access to the Alumnae/Student Directory, Job and Housing Boards and more. The Job and Housing Boards have become invaluable resources for students and alums and will be fully transitioned from Facebook to the website soon. Membership to the site is free.
