UPCOMING EVENTS

The Zen of Zoom: a live two-session, instructional seminar

also-for-zoomSession I: Sunday, January 10 2021, 2:00 - 4:00 PM

Session II: Sunday, January 24 2021, 2:00-4:00 PM

Want to learn the ‘ins and outs’ of Zoom, the cloud-based video communications app? Most of us use it to access virtual programs, events and, sometimes, each other, during these fraught Covid-19 months of isolation. But do you really feel confident using it, other than to ‘join’ a meeting? Do you know how to create, conduct and control a meeting, its many features and safety settings? Even if you complain about being ‘zoomed-out,’ it seems the app will remain in our daily lives for some months to come.

Join Stan Krushkov, an IT Consultant living and working in St. Petersburg, Russia, as he conducts a live two-session seminar (by Zoom, of course) covering Zoom’s basic and advanced features.

Limit: 60 participants

Join the Smith College Alumnae Book Club!

unnamed--1-The Smith College virtual Alumnae Book Club will read Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents, by Pulitzer Prize-winner Isabel Wilkerson, from January 7 through March 11. Described by Time magazine as "A transformative new framework through which to understand identity and injustice in America," Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents explores how America has been shaped by a hierarchy of human rankings and the destructive effects of that hierarchy on everything from the healthcare system to culture and politics.

How the club works: The digital book club connects through a private online forum. The club offers a wonderful way to connect and network with fellow alums, explore important topics and engage with Smith during this time of physical distancing. The group spends approximately two months reading each book, with guided discussion topics. Best of all, you have input on the books we read and can participate when it is convenient for you. There is no cost to participate.

Pecan Sales: A Smith Tradition

pecans-1For more than sixty years, Smith College clubs around the country have been selling Georgia pecans at holiday time to raise money for college scholarships. Dorothy Lobrano Guth '50 started this fundraising effort for the New York Smith Club about fifty years ago.

The NYC Club continues to offer the three most popular selections: Mammoth halves, milk-chocolate-covered, and dark-chocolate-covered. Additional varieties (such as cinnamon, glazed, or clusters) are available by special request.

These pecans make a wonderful treat all year long and as always, the net proceeds go to the Smith Scholarship Fund! Scroll down for the store link and order yours today!
