For those who missed it, the Hatfield Historical society hosted a virtual event - Sophia Smith: Imagining a Life Through Art and Artifacts. Through artifacts donated to the Society by the Alumnae Association of Smith College we have a glimpse of Smith's life in the  small town of Hatfield, MA., where she was raised.
 

The Historical Society discussed Sophia's life during her last years, as featured in the book, “Tea with an Old Dragon”, by Jane Yolen and illustrated by Monica Vachula. Monica's talk on the process of illustrating the book, the choices that were made and the many links to Sophia's life that she encountered was quite facinating and well worth seeing.
