Join the Smith College Club of New York City for an evening with the New York Philharmonic, conducted by Elim Chan ’09, Smith Medalist 2026.
Since graduating from Smith in 2009, Elim has become one of the most sought-after artists of her generation, performing an unusually wide-ranging repertory of symphonic works from the Classical period to the present day.
In 2014 she was the first female winner of the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition and is now the first female and youngest principal conductor of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.
The Sunday Times describes her as “a rare example of a young conductor at once brilliant and not in the least showing off.” Following her debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Classical Review praised her as “a marvel of control and understanding,” noting her clear, economical gestures and exceptionally sensitive ear.
Program includes:
• Noriko Koide: Swadding Silk and Gossamer Rain (NY premiere)
• Saint-Saëns: Cello Concerto No. 1 (Carter Brey, cellist)
• Prokofiev: Cinderella Suite
