'Unofficial Summer' Social - Art and Wine and You!

at the Janet Borden Gallery LIVE

Hey, Brooklynites! (And all of you from the other boroughs), join us for a beginning of summer (almost) celebration, as a run-up to the Memorial Day weekend, hosted by Janet Border '73 at her heralded namesake Gallery in DUMBO (Bklyn). Janet will open her doors, literally, for an evening soiree, gallery to sidewalk, replete with art, light refreshments and the company and conviviality of Smith alums. The gallery at 91 Water Street is locate in 'old Soho'-like DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan [and Brooklyn] Bridges), by the waterfront and is readily accessible by both public or private transportation. FREE to members and 'young alums'; nominal fee for nonmembers. CLASS #2: INTRO TO DRAWING FROM LIFE W/ LISA JACOBSON '97  

Monday May 23  7:00 PM to 8:30 PM  TONIGHT!

Not too late to register. Watch, learn, improvise supplies, if needed!  

Learn basic isketch-compositedeas and tricks to render 3D objects on paper with artist and visual arts educator, Lisa Jacobson, ’97, Chair, Visual Arts, Collegiate School, NYC.

Building on the ideas of Class #1, using shadows to create volume, Class #2 will revisit the use of shadow and highlights and composition, with potentialy greater complexity. We will continue to use white objects as our subject. Eggs, dishes, earbuds, etc. could be  beautiful.

A Celebration of Asian Heritage through Art with Yao Wu, SCMA Curator of Asian Art

What does it mean to be "Asian" culturally? 

Explore with us, as Yao Wu, Jane Chase Carroll Curator of Asian Art at the Smith College Museum of Art, in celebration of AAPI Heritage Month, contextualizes that question through a discussion of historical and contemporary Asian and American art.  In this free, virtual presentation, Wu will present and discuss the career and practices of Asian American artists, including Nam June Paik, Ching Ho Cheng, Munio Makuuchi, Mohan Samant and Yu-Wen Wu, all represented in Smith's large and continually growing art collections.
